Rip City Dahlia Tuber – Rich Burgundy to Near-Black Informal Decorative
Rip City was hybridized by Nick Gitts of Swan Island Dahlias, officially introduced in the mid-1990s. Rich, velvety burgundy to near-black petals with deep plum or maroon undertones give this dark red variety a dramatic, moody presence in the garden or a bouquet.
A robust overachiever, this variety grows 4 to 5 feet tall and heavily benefits from staking or structural support due to its vigorous height and heavy flower production.
Dahlia Variety Details:
- Height: 4–5 ft
- Bloom Size: 4–6 in (BB/Small)
- Form: Informal Decorative
- Color: Dark red — burgundy to near-black with plum/maroon undertones

Dramatic, velvety, and richly colored, Rip City is a standout addition for gardeners and flower farmers seeking a moody near-black dahlia for their cutting garden.
