Octopus Sparkle was hybridized in the Netherlands by Rinus van Nuland, a unique novelty variety crossing elements of orchid-type and anemone-type dahlias. Slender, twisting scarlet-coral outer petals resemble tentacles, surrounding a highly ruffled, fluffy red and yellow center — a truly one-of-a-kind form unlike any typical dahlia.

Growing 3 to 4 feet (approximately 1–1.2 meters) tall, this variety produces tall, straight stems excellent for cutting, with blooms measuring around 4 inches across.
