Mingus Toni Dahlia Tuber
Mingus Toni was hybridized by Phil Mingus Sr., a prominent member of the Portland Dahlia Society who, along with his son Philip Mingus II, created the famous "Mingus" line of over 80 dahlia varieties. This striking, crowd-pleasing dahlia features a base of pink, rose, or lavender-pink petals heavily variegated with dark red, magenta, or raspberry speckles and splashes, often glowing from a bright yellow center — no two blooms look exactly alike.
A prolific bloomer, this variety grows up to 5 feet tall on strong stems. Like many variegated dahlias, Mingus Toni is known to occasionally "sport," or revert to a solid color — a plant or single bloom can open as a rich lipstick red or maroon flower, widely known among flower farmers as "Red Mingus."
